Digital Tools and Content are Part of the Math Instruction Mix

Press Release

Stamford, CT, February 21, 2019 — U.S. K-12 students are spending about one-quarter of their math instructional time using digital tools and content, according to a new report from Simba Information, K-12 Mathematics Market Survey Report 2019.

“Even as more technology becomes available in classrooms, math instructors devote the major share of their time with students to direct instruction, group work and traditional pencil-to-paper problem-solving,” said Karen Meaney, a senior analyst in Simba Information’s Education Group.

K-12 Mathematics Market Survey Report 2019 research indicates that Chromebooks are the computing devices students most often use when they do access digital tools and content. Data in the report comes from a survey of mathematics educators during the 2018-2019 school year.

Additional information is provided in K-12 Mathematics Market Survey Report 2019 on who are leading providers of math curriculum, what are the most important criteria when math resources are selected, and whether educators expect spending for math instructional materials to increase in the 2019-2020 school year.
