Abstract

Deployment of Desktops, Laptops and Chromebooks in K-12 Schools 2017

Deployment of Desktops, Laptops & Chromebooks in K-12 Schools 2017 provides information on the penetration of computing devices in U.S. K-12 schools and details how much those devices are being used by students during the average school day. It highlights the shift from the purchasing of desktop computers to the purchasing of laptops and Chromebooks and indicates which brands of laptops and Chromebooks are most popular.

The report provides information on whether schools are increasing spending on hardware and how hardware spending impacts funding available for instructional materials purchases. Additionally, the report looks at what sources schools tap for technology purchases.

Deployment of Desktops, Laptops & Chromebooks in K-12 Schools 2017 is the third in a series of reports from Simba Information providing information on the K-12 education market, specifically how K-12 schools are supplementing traditional instructional materials in classrooms with growing implementations of technology.

This report, and the other three in the 2017 publication series on technology in K-12 education—Deployment of Display Devices in K-12 Schools 2017, Deployment of Tablets/Mobile Devices in K-12 Schools 2017, and the summative report K-12 Deployment Patterns and Purchasing Plans for Computing/Display Devices 2017—are based on a survey of educators during the 2016-2017 school year. Those educators included superintendents, district technology coordinators, district curriculum directors, principals and school technology coordinators. All survey responses are cross-tabulated by job title, grade level, school type, region, and other variables in order to present a comprehensive portrait of the technology market in K-12 schools in the 2016-17 school year.
